North Korea army threatens pre-emptive attack

SEOUL (Reuters) -North Korea indicated that it has the right to launch a pre-emptive attack against U.S.-backed South Korean forces because the two Koreas are technically still at war, the communist state's official media said on Tuesday.

The comments came as North Korea shows its displeasure with annual joint South Korean-U.S. military exercises, which Pyongyang has said are a preparation for an invasion of its territory.

A spokesman for the North's Korea People's Army (KPA) said distrust is high between the United States and North Korea, and Pyongyang "will never remain a passive onlooker to the U.S. pre-emptive attack on the DPRK," its official news agency reported.

For the rest of the story: Pre-Emptive Attack

Bosun's analysis: For years North Korea has protested the Team Spirit training exercises between the United States and South Korea. Imagine North Korea telling NATO to cancel it's exercises, too. No way.

President Clinton's administration caved to the North Korea protests and cancelled Team Spirit training exercises in mid - late 1990s. Another fine example of the Clinton era of non-military decision making. The Clinton era gave our Little Benevolent Dictator "Bad Hairdo" Kim Jong Il and his whacked out officials encouragement to keep beating their chests like a bunch of Bozo Baboons.

Eventually North Korea is going to have to come into the 21 first century or go away.
