Able Danger Update

The mainstream media continues to ignore Able Danger, for reasons beyond me. Perhaps the comedy of errors run deep and those who may be responsible are trying to protect themselves. However, the cast of characters are still there, perhaps. And, one would think that history will repeat itself again.

NORRISTOWN - Just as "Able Danger" was uncovering startling links to al-Qaida in the United States and abroad in 2000, the data mining effort was suddenly ordered to cease operating that April. According to testimony from data analysts who worked on the program, Pentagon lawyers threw up red flags after learning that the data mining team was downloading information from Internet Web sites run by Islamic groups.

Their Internet access was sharply curtailed after attorneys raised concerns about the group's practice of collecting personal information on "U.S. persons......" Follow the link to get additional information on this story Legal Debate Hobbled Able Danger.

WASHINGTON - When all the facts about "Able Danger" are revealed, the history of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks will be rewritten, according to Lt. Col. Anthony Shaffer, who accused the Pentagon at a Congressional hearing Wednesday of trying to hide the former data mining effort that claims it identified hijacker Mohamed Atta more than a year before the terrorist attacks.

Weldon: 'Able Danger' ID'd 9/ll Ringleader Feb 14 5:33, By KIMBERLY HEFLING, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON Pre-Sept. 11 intelligence conducted by a secret military unit identified terrorist ringleader Mohamed Atta 13 different times, a congressman said Tuesday. During a Capitol Hill news conference, Rep. Curt Weldon, R-Pa., said the unit _ code-named "Able Danger" _ also identified "a problem" in Yemen two weeks before the attack on the USS Cole. It knew the problem was tied into the port of Aden and involved a U.S. platform, but the ship commander was not made aware of it, Weldon said. (The suicide bombing of the Cole killed 17 sailors on Oct. 12, 2000.)
